When I decided to travel to Libya in January ’24, I aimed to photograph places that had hardly seen any visitors in the previous 13 years, bringing to the foreground a country that has been all but forgotten conflict after conflict.
Libya has some of the most incredible landscapes on Earth, home to some of the last lakes in the Sahara desert and to the Acacus Mountains, where some of the oldest rock art can be observed.
Despite being surrounded by all this beauty, spread out over the gigantic surface of the country, it was the Libyan people and their desert culture that I wanted to depict the most.
Differently from any other trip I had previously been on, a crew of 7 people was with me, with duties such as cooking, driving, and maintaining safety. This led to plenty of mundane scenes all throughout the trip.
Over the weeks we learned to communicate and understand each other despite the language barrier, forming a lasting bond that I will carry with me forever.
This project is the result, a look into everyday life for a Libyan in the Sahara
