People of Armenia
On my two-month trip to Armenia, I had set out to capture moments of the country’s resilient craftsmanship tradition, still practiced by a few locals.
A basket weaver in Vayots Dzor, a fabulous homecook in Syunik, rug weavers in Tavush…the more I depicted these enchanting scenes, and etched their stories in my mind, the more I was intrigued to hear more about people from all over Armenia. Reason why the project quickly turned into portraying scenes of mundane life around the country.
After all, I’m on a quest to learn and depict culture, and what defines culture more than the simple, genuine moments?
Over the two months I spent in this landlocked country, I stumbled upon plenty of beautiful scenes. Everywhere I went, the unmistakeable Armenian hospitality found me, each person helping me along the way, either by reaching my car on horse and redirecting me to the right path, or by inviting me to most incredible feast after mentioning a sliver of hunger.
Within my overarching project in the Caucasus, this specific representation of Armenian People will always be prevalent, and never finished. This is a constant work in progress.
The hope is to inspire anyone that sees it to go outside of the ordinary, of the usual hotspots, and to be curious. It’s that curiosity that will reward you with your favorite memories
